History of RMHC Fiji

RMHC Fiji is one of over 260 RMHC Chapters around the world. We enable and facilitate family-centered care to families with ill or injured children through our Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Colonial War Memorial hospital.

Since 1974, the RMHC network of Chapters has helped millions of families with sick children find comfort and support when they need it most. Tailored to meet the urgent needs of each community, Fiji is proud to be among the 65 countries and regions across the globe that help provide vital resources and compassionate care to children and their families through core RMHC programs.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Fiji, established in January 2015, is a Fijian registered non-profit charity (Reg # 1012 – Charitable Trust Act (Cap67)) that is an affiliate of the global Ronald McDonald House Program Charity located  in Chicago USA.

A MOU was signed in February 2018 between RMHC Fiji and the Ministry for Health & Medical Services for the establishment of a Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Pediatrics Department at the Colonial War Memorial hospital in Suva and the renovation and upgrade of a mothers’ room

In May 2018, works began at the mothers’ room at the CWMH followed by the construction of the Ronald McDonald Family Room. The construction works cost RMHC Fiji over $140,000.00 with an additional $25,000 spent on furnishing the rooms.

In March 2022, the Ronald McDonald House opened at the Labasa hospital. Situated outside of the children’s wards, the Ronald McDonald House, boasts 11 private bedrooms, fully functioning kitchen, dining & lounge areas, laundry facilities and a play area for the little ones.

The construction and furnishings for the house was over $700,000.00
